Steaua confident of getting past BoroWritten by: Francisco Barreto (Soccerway.com)
MIDDLESBROUGH, Apr 27 (SW) - Steaua Bucharest are confident they can keep a clean sheet tonight against Middlesbrough and advance to the May 10 UEFA Cup final in Eindhoven.
Steaua won the first leg last Thursday 1-0, and in 13 UEFA Cup matches this season, they have allowed only four goals, with four matches ending goalless.
"A no-scoring match is the ticket to [the final in] Eindhoven," central defender Dorin Goian said on Wednesday.
Steaua captain Mirel Radoi added: "We play well in front of a hostile public and we'll score.
"But 0-0 draws have made us famous in the UEFA Cup this season and I won't be upset with another."
Steaua coach Cosmin Olaroiu has come under fire for his team’s defensive style, but he too would be pleased with another goalless draw.
"My defenders are good enough to not concede a goal in Middlesbrough.
"So my strikers have to do their job because they have their backs covered.
"I'm the coach who always plays to win but a 0-0 would give me the happiest day of my life."
The winner of the tie advances to the final in Eindhoven, facing either Sevilla or Schalke 04.
