Hienoa palata voiton makuun, mutta kyllä itse pelissä vielä tekemistä on.

Kuudentoista minuutin kohdalla johtoon, Pritchardin upealla laukauksella boksin ulkopuolelta. Lisää hyviä uutisia puoliajan loppuun, kun kotijoukkueen Davis ajetaan suoralla punaisella ulos. Jostain syystä kuitenkin toinen puoliaika etenee ilman vierasjoukkueen lisäosumia, vahvasta pallon-ja pelinhallinnasta huolimatta. Niinhän siinä sitten käy, että kun kuusikymmentäneljä minuuttia on kellossa, tasoittaa kotijoukkue ja tämä tulos säilyy loppuun asti

Mukava maali-iloittelu Morecamben kustannuksella. Ehjä ja vahva ysikymppinen, jossa onnistumisia laajalla rintamalla. Etenkin Pritchard alkaa nostamaan profiiliaan vaaditulle tasolle, kuten myös Dajaku. Tiivis tilanne kärjessä ja kaikki mahdollista.

Ensimmäinen puoliaika kokonaisuudessaan heikkoa tekemistä ja kotijoukkue lisäajalla hyvinkin ansaittuun johtoon. Toiselle puoliajalle prässitason nosto, jonka ansiosta alettiin voittamaan palloja lähempänä Ipswichin maalia ja saamaan pallonhallintaa. Viisi minuuttia vain pelattu, kun Dan Neil vapauttaa erinomaisen esityön jälkeen, Nathan Broadheadin maalintekoon. Jobin postia tuli Leon Dajakun loukkaantumisen myötä.

Huomenna jälleen vieraissa ja nyt EFL cupin merkeissä. Vastustajan taso nousee hieman, mutta vain hieman, kun Emiratesilla vastaan asettuu Arsenal.

Tänään oli harvinaista herkkua tarjolla Viaplayn näyttäessä meille Mustien Kissojen pelin iltapäivästä. Oli aika väkevä esitys tänään Doncasterin vieraana. Lukemat olisivat voineet olla paljon nähtyä rumemmatkin. Oli muuten aika mukava vieraskannattajien invaasio paikanpäälle jälleen kerran...

Esitys oli dominoiva ja ansaitut vieraspisteet Donnylta. Jobinpostiakin on, kun selvisi että kovaan iskuun päässyt Nathan Broadhead on ainakin kolme kuukautta pois kentiltä. Onneksi Leon Dajakun kanssa selvittiin huomattavasti helpommalla ja mies olikin eilen jälleen avauksessa.

Loistava esitys vuoden viimeiseen peliin. Viiden maalin ilottelu ja Loch Ness Drogballe hatullinen. Enemmän kuin ansaittu voitto ja vuosi päättyy sarjajohdossa, tosin enemmän pelejä pelattuna, kuin Rotherhamilla ja Wiganilla.

Siirtohuhuissa pyörii vahvasti tällä hetkellä kaksi nimeä.

Linfieldin ja Pohjois-Irlannin U21-majun laitapuolustaja Trai Hume. Huhujen mukaan tarjous tehty jo, ja oli paikan päällä Sheff Wed kotipelissä

Toisena entinen City- ja Celtic hyökkääjä, Patrick Roberts. Mies pelaa tällä hetkellä Ranskassa ja tarkemmin seurana Ligue 1 ESTAC Troyes. Kuuleman mukaan myös hän oli todistamassa viimeisintä kotivoittoa paikan päällä.

Ikkunan huojentavin uutinen tuli kuitenkin, kun Speakman kertoi että Dan Neil ei ole tässä ikkunassa myytävänä. Ainakin Burnley on kiinnostunut miehen palveluksista.

Trai Hume signs up!

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Trai Hume.

A right back that can also play in midfield, Hume moves to the Stadium of Light from Danske Bank Premiership outfit Linfield FC for an undisclosed fee and signs a four-and-a-half-year contract on Wearside with a club option of a further year.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 17 games under the management of former SAFC striker David Healy.

Hume has over 50 senior appearances under his belt in Northern Ireland, including outings in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifying stages, and he enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Ballymena United last season.

A Northern Ireland Under-21 international, he becomes the Lads’ first signing of the January transfer window and he will be available for selection when the Black Cats travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Hume said: “It feels amazing to be here at this massive club and I can’t wait to get out there in front of the fans with my new team-mates. I came to the Sheffield Wednesday match and it was absolutely bouncing – I loved every second of it. I’ve played over 50 games in the Irish league and I think that will help me settle in, but this is the right time for me to test myself in a new environment and this is the right club. Sunderland are aiming for bigger and better things and I can’t wait to get going."

Lee Johnson added: “We have been tracking Trai since the summer window and we are delighted to welcome him to Sunderland AFC. We are looking forward to working with him and seeing how he adapts to English football and the challenges of League One, as well as having a good calibre of player around him. We have to give him time, but we also have to push him as hard as we can to integrate him within the first team as soon as possible.”

AOB ehti olemaan kentällä ainoastaan parin minuutin ajan, kunnes pääsi iskemään vieraat johtoon boksin ulkopuolelta.

Lisää apuja tuli minuutilla 76, kun Sykes ajettiin toisella keltaisella ulos. Tästä huolimmatta isännät pääsivät iskemään vielä tasoituksen, noin viisi minuuttia ennen päätösvihellystä. Nämä tälläiset pupellukset on omiaan syömään suoran nousijan paikkaan tarvittavia pisteitä.

Danny Batth signs for SAFC!

Sunderland AFC is delighted to welcome centre back Danny Batth to the Stadium of Light.

The 31-year-old has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal on Wearside, joining from Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City on a free transfer.

A three-time promotion winner, Batth has made 13 appearances for the Potters during the current campaign, including a string of nine successive league starts between November and January.

The 6’3” defender has spent the majority of his career playing in England’s second tier, making 260 appearances in the Championship and 117 in League One.

Batth earned his first promotion from the third tier in 2012 with Sheffield Wednesday and he repeated the feat in 2014, captaining Wolverhampton Wanderers throughout their journey from League One to the Premier League.

He was named in the League One Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year in 2014, and his performances continued to receive recognition in 2021 when he was named Stoke’s Player of the Month for November.

The defender spent time on loan with Colchester United as a youngster and he represented Middlesbrough during the 2018-19 season, with a move to the Potteries coming to fruition in 2019.

Batth made 107 appearances at the Bet365 Stadium, including 101 starts, and he will be available for selection when Sunderland face Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The defender said: “I’m very happy that this deal is done because this is a juggernaut of a football club and I’m delighted to be a part of its journey. This is the perfect set-up for me. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the home supporters and I’ve already spoken to the Head Coach, who has tried to sign me in the past. When the opportunity arose, I thought it would be the perfect option to crack on and do well.”

Lee Johnson added: “Danny is a player that I’ve tried to sign a couple of times before, so it’s third time lucky. We have some good characters already in place at the football club and you are always looking to nurture leadership qualities, but Danny’s come ready-made. A dominant centre back, he has a great personality and I think he will have really positive effect on and off the pitch.”

Patrick Roberts signs for Sunderland!

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Patrick Roberts.

The winger arrives from Premier League champions Manchester City and signs an initial six-month contract at the Stadium of Light.

SAFC have the option of extending Roberts’ contract following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

Born in Kingston upon Thames, the 24-year-old progressed through Fulham’s youth ranks before moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2015 at the age of 18.

Roberts spent 30 months on loan with Celtic from January 2016 until May 2018, contributing 18 goals and 26 assists in 78 first-team appearances.

The forward’s time north of the border was a trophy-laden one, as the 51-time Scottish champions won three successive Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups.

Roberts has 165 senior appearances under his belt and has also spent time on loan with Girona Futbol Club, Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Derby County and ES Troyes AC.

The forward was part of the England Under-17 side that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in 2014 and he has represented the Three Lions at every level from Under-16s to Under-20s.

He will be available for selection when Sunderland host Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Roberts said: “I can’t wait to get going. I came to the game against Sheffield Wednesday a few weeks ago to get a feel for it and it was great to watch – and something that I wanted to be a part of. The fans want you to do well and work hard every matchday and that pressure and expectation is something I thrive off. I just want to do well for the people that support me and get Sunderland back to where they belong.”

Lee Johnson added: “Patrick is a player that we have always kept our eyes on over the years because he really is a top talent. This is an amazing opportunity – for him and the club – to give him the love he requires at a standard whereby we think he can excel and then come with us to the next level. He thrives on the big occasion and the beauty of Sunderland is that there is a big occasion every three days. We hope that this is the place he calls home for a number of years.”

Jack Clarke arrives on loan!

Sunderland AFC today announced the arrival of Jack Clarke from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21-year-old winger has moved to the Stadium of Light on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.

A Leeds United academy graduate, Clarke made his senior debut for the Whites in October 2018 and he was named the club’s Young Player of the Year following a breakthrough 2018-19 campaign.

The England Under-20 international moved to Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee in July 2019, signing a four-year contract at White Hart Lane before returning to Elland Road on loan.

Clarke spent the second part of the 2019-20 season at Queens Park Rangers before making his Spurs debut for Jose Mourinho’s side in a 3-0 UEFA Europa League victory over Austrian Football Bundesliga side LASK.

The versatile forward, who can operate on either flank or centrally, joined Stoke City on loan in January 2021 and played 14 times for the Potters before injury brought a premature end to his campaign.

Clarke returned to action for Spurs’ Under-21 side earlier this season and has registered three goals in his last four games, whilst also featuring for the North Londoners’ senior outfit in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The winger said: “I can't wait to get started. I'm from this part of the world, so I know this is a massive club and what it means to the fans. I'm looking forward to playing at the Stadium of Light and the prospect of being part of the team that takes the club back to the Championship. I want to help the team as much as possible, whether that's goals or assists, and ensure we reach that end goal."

Lee Johnson added: “Jack is a talented player and having followed his progress over the past few years, I feel like he’s really grown on the pitch throughout the past six months and found a maturity to pair with that talent. The competition for places in our final third is strong and we want to be able to change games as we move into the back end of the season. Jack understands that this is a big club with a lot to play for, but he wants to be an influential player for us and help to ensure we have a successful end to the season.”

Jahas, ja sitten koutsi luiskaan. Eilisestä murskatappiosta huolimatta aika mielenkiintoinen veto tähän saumaan. Johnsonin aikana Sunderland saavutti kuitenkin ihan hyviäkin tuloksia, mutta olisikohan muutamat tämän kauden murskatappiot ja viime kauden floppaus olleet merkittävimpinä syinä LJ:n fuduihin. Kaiken lisäksi uusia pelaajia tulee ovista ja ikkunoista vaikka Sunderlandin materiaali oli täysin riittävä League Onen kärkitaistoon ilman näitä täydennyksiäkin. Vielä jokin aika sitten näytti siltä, että mikään ei voi estää Mustien Kissojen nousua, mutta onnistuuko seura tekemään sen itse tälläkin kertaa?

Ajoituksesta nyt voi tässä vaiheessa heitellä mitä vaan, mutta eiköhän ratkaisun onnistuminen kuitenkin mitata tulevaisuudessa, eikä nykyhetkessä.
