Xhemajli signs for SunderlandSunderland AFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kosovan international defender Arbenit Xhemajli.
The 22-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light after spending time with the club throughout pre-season, during which he sported the famous red and white stripes in a 3-1 win over Gateshead.
Xhemajli becomes Phil Parkinson’s fifth signing of the summer, arriving after a six-figure compensation payment was agreed with Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax following the end of his contract.
The left-footed defender made his first-team debut back in 2017 and has since gone on to make over 50 career appearances in Switzerland.
In October 2019, Xhemajli made his senior international debut for Kosovo against Gibraltar after previously making five appearances for the Under-21s.
Following his move to Wearside, Xhemajli said: “It feels great to get the deal done. I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I had some positive talks with the manager and from what I have seen, I believe we will have a successful season.”
Parkinson added: “We're trying to build a team that can step onto the opposition and be aggressive in the way we play. He has that physicality, but he's also a good footballer. There will be a period of adaptation for him, but he's a player who wants to learn and one who I think will be a quick learner."
Xhemajli will not be eligible to feature this weekend in SAFC’s Carabao Cup tie against Hull City.

Guess who's back!Sunderland AFC are delighted to announce the return of Danny Graham.
The 35-year-old striker, who spent three years at the club between 2013 and 2016, has signed a one-year deal ahead of the 2020-21 Sky Bet League season.
Following the expiration of his contract at the Stadium of Light, Graham signed a permanent deal with Blackburn Rovers in 2016.
The striker excelled throughout his time at Ewood Park, scoring 52 league goals in 176 appearances with the club.
14 of those goals came during the 2017-18 season, as Graham fired Rovers to promotion from Sky Bet League One.
The striker has a plethora of experience within the game having made almost 600 career appearances with 12 different clubs, and his return rubberstamps Phil Parkinson’s sixth signing of the summer.
Speaking after his return to Wearside, Graham said: “It’s been in the pipeline for a number of weeks now, so I’m delighted the deal is done and it feels great to be here. I’m looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”
Parkinson added: “I’m delighted to welcome Danny to the club. He provides us with another option and more competition at the top end of the pitch, and he is another excellent addition to the squad.

Kausi käyntiin neljällä tappiottomalla ottelulla.
Bristol Rovers 1-1 Oxford 2-0 Peterborough 1-0 Charlton 0-0
Ennen ikkunan sulkeutumista, on ilmeisesti tarkoitus tuoda sisään pari uutta pelaajaa.

Sunderland AFC have completed the loan signing of Dion SandersonThe versatile defender, who can play on the right or in a central role, moves to Wearside from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the 2020-21 season.
After making his first-team debut in an EFL Cup tie against Aston Villa in October 2019, the 20-year-old joined Cardiff City in January 2020 on a six-month loan deal.
During his time at the Cardiff City Stadium, Sanderson made 10 first-team appearances.
After moving to the Stadium of Light, the defender said: “It’s a massive club and I hope I can contribute to a successful campaign. I enjoyed my first-team experience with Cardiff City last season, and I believe this is the best opportunity for me to build on that. I can play right-back or centre-back – I just love defending and I love tackling. I can’t wait to get started.”
Manager Phil Parkinson added: “I’m pleased to welcome Dion to the club. He’s a young and athletic player who will add further competition to the squad."
Dion will link up with his new team-mates on Monday and will not be eligible to feature this weekend against Swindon To

The Guardian julkaisi perjantaina artikkelin, tulevaan omistajanvaihdokseen liittyen.
Uusimman tiedon mukaan suurimmaksi omistajaksi olisi nousemassa Sveitsiläinen, 22-vuotias (kyllä, 22v) Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. Kyril on pitkäaikaisen Marseillen omistajan, Robertin poika.
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus 60% Juan Sartori 20% Stewart Donald 15% Charlie Methven 5%

SkyBetin lista potentiaalisista uusista managereista on osittain huvittavaa luettavaa. Esim. aina perinteinen David O Leary on oltava listalla joka kerta. Ajoitus potkuille on mielenkiintoinen, ottaen huomioon omistajavaihdoksen.

Speakman appointed Sporting DirectorSunderland AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Kristjaan Speakman as the club’s new Sporting Director.
The 41-year-old arrives at the Academy of Light to take on the newly-created role as part of a restructuring of the club’s football operations. After departing Birmingham City following an outstanding 14-year tenure, Speakman will lead SAFC’s overall football programme, including player identification, development and acquisitions across the first team and academy.
Working alongside Chief Executive Officer Jim Rodwell, he will also take primary responsibility for reviewing and implementing new strategies to develop the club’s footballing infrastructure, with an emphasis on data analytics and innovation, and providing a clear pathway from the younger age groups to the first team.
After a spell coaching within Derby County’s academy, Speakman moved to Birmingham City in 2006. He
spent eight years as the Blues’ Academy Manager following his appointment in 2011 before progressing into the role of Academy Director in 2018 where his remit extended across first-team operations.
The strategies and philosophies implemented during his time at St Andrew’s led to the recruitment and development of a plethora of notable academy graduates, including England internationals Jack Butland, Demarai Gray, Nathan Redmond and Jude Bellingham. During the 2019-20 season alone, ten players developed by Birmingham’s academy system made their first-team debuts.
Speaking about his appointment, Speakman said: “I have been tasked with delivering a best-in-class player development model from the academy through to the senior squad and given a realistic timeframe and budget with which to do so. It is an absolute honour to have been invited to do this at one of England’s biggest clubs.
“The blueprint for the future and the ambition to create a sustainable structure with a clear identity is one I will work diligently and passionately to bring to fruition for Sunderland fans. I’m grateful for the autonomy granted me by the ownership group to pursue this plan and create something we can all be proud of.
“We understand the frustration of the present circumstances and whilst we seek patience and continued support for the longer-term objectives, we are absolutely determined to fix key issues in the short term to establish a winning team. The task of appointing a Head Coach who is both aligned to the overall plan and capable of impacting the team’s performance and style in the immediate weeks and months is a priority above all else.
“I fully understand the potential of the football club and I’m looking forward to working collectively with staff, players and fans to restore the club to its rightful place in the Premier League. There’s no doubt about the size of the task ahead of us and the need to be pragmatic in our approach, but we all share the same dream and the work starts now to make this a reality.”

No nyt on kyllä maailmankirjat sekaisin, aivan mielettömän kova signaus.

Ensivaikutelmat miehestä on kyllä positiiviset.

Johnson appointed Head Coach!Sunderland AFC is delighted to welcome Lee Johnson as the club’s new Head Coach.
The former Bristol City manager has signed an initial two-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light and will take charge of his first game today when the Lads host Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
Johnson’s appointment marks a swift return to management for the 39-year-old, who was the longest serving manager in the EFL Championship when his time at Ashton Gate came to an end in July.
Speaking upon his arrival, Johnson said: “Speaking to Kristjaan, Jim and the owners, I was absolutely blown away by their plans and dreams for the club. I can see so much potential and I see it everywhere. I see it in the league and how we can step up, I see it in the facilities, I see it in the community and the passion the people of Sunderland have, and I also see it in the academy. The feeling I got from the ownership group [made this the right club for me]. There was other interest, but that doesn’t matter now and I want to be successful and to see a brave new Sunderland. I want to be bold in my own decisions, I want to be bold for the team in the way that we play and the philosophy that we play to, but I also want the club to make bold decisions and that is what I’ve truly bought into. We have to connect the team and the fan base because that can be really powerful at a club like this.”
Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “The role of our Head Coach is going to be critical in delivering the strategy we have collectively established. This aligned approach has enabled us to create a profile for the position and following a rigorous process, I felt Lee was the outstanding candidate. I believe he understands the complexities of the project and I’m looking forward to supporting him in his role to bring sustained success to the football club.”
After taking charge of Bristol City in February 2016, he steered the Robins clear of relegation in successive seasons whilst implementing a fresh approach and ethos across the club.
That approach started to yield results during the 2017-18 campaign and led to across-the-board progression, as Johnson, who was named Championship Manager of the Month in September, led the club to an 11th-placed finish.
In the same season, a memorable EFL Cup run saw numerous Premier League outfits swept aside, including Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, before a narrow semi-final defeat to Manchester City led to Pep Guardiola hailing Johnson’s style of play.
The Robins’ evolution continued during 2018-19 and they narrowly missed out on a Play-Off place on the final day of the campaign, finishing eighth to secure their best league finish in over a decade.
As a player, Johnson made over 400 combined appearances for Yeovil Town and Bristol City, winning the National League and League Two titles with the former before earning a third promotion with the Robins in 2007.
He also represented Brentford, Hearts, Derby County, Chesterfield and Kilmarnock as a player, winning the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup during his time north of the border.
Johnson became the youngest manager in the EFL when he was appointed Oldham Athletic boss aged 31, with a two-year spell at Boundary Park ending when he took charge of Barnsley in February 2015.
