Leon Dajaku signs on loan!

Lainaus
Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of winger Leon Dajaku.

The 20-year-old moves to the Stadium of Light from Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin, joining on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Prior to arriving in the German capital in January 2021, Dajaku rose through the ranks at VfB Stuttgart and he was the U17 Bundesliga’s top scorer in 2017-18 with 23 goals and eight assists.

The following season he registered 11 goals and five assists in 24 U19 Bundesliga outings, whilst also scoring four goals in four games as Stuttgart won the U19 DFB Cup.

After making his senior debut in the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Dajaku moved to Bayern Munich in July 2019 and signed a four-year deal.

He made two senior appearances for the Bavarians in his first season at the Allianz Arena, as Hansi Flick’s side won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.

The winger also helped the club’s second-string – Bayern Munich II – win the third-tier title, scoring four goals and notching four assists in 29 appearances.

At international level, Sunderland’s new no.7 has represented Germany’s Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s, scoring three goals in six appearances for the latter.

Following his arrival, Dajaku said: “I always looked to the football in England and I always wanted to come here, so when I heard I could, it felt like the right step. I’ve seen some of the games and its crazy how many fans come in the first division, but this – having the fans push you – is what I like. It feels very good to sign for Sunderland and I’m very proud to be here.”

Lee Johnson added: “Leon is a really interesting player – he’s a top prospect with good ability, agility and quality – so we are looking forward to adding him to the squad and working with him. He’s a hungry player that has shown a strong attitude and desire to come to Sunderland and grow with us, which is exactly what we want.”

SAFC sign Thorben Hoffmann!

Lainaus
Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Thorben Hoffmann.

The stopper has put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal at the Stadium of Light, arriving from 31-time German champions Bayern Munich.

Hoffmann, 22, has made over 50 appearances for Bayern Munich II in the 3. Liga – the German third division – as well as being capped by Germany at Under-18 level.

Standing at 6’4”, the goalkeeper started his career with Hansa Rostock before enjoying spells with Hertha BSC and RB Leipzig.

He moved to the Allianz Arena in 2015 and was part of the Bayern II side that won the German third division in 2019-20, as they became the first reserve team to win the 3. Liga.

Speaking after his arrival, Hoffmann said: “It’s a great feeling to sign with the club and I can’t wait to meet the players and staff. I’m looking to develop as a player and Sunderland gave me the best opportunity to do that. It will be a special feeling to play in front of 30,000 supporters each week at the Stadium of Light.”

Lee Johnson added: “Thorben is elite on the ball in terms of playing out from the back and he has great pedigree from his learning process and the way that German clubs coach, especially Bayern Munich. Like all young goalkeepers he has areas of his game to work on, but he’s agile and an outstanding shot-stopper in close quarters. We are really excited to add another quality goalkeeper to our stable, as we continue to drive competition and quality.”

Denver Hume pens new deal!

Lainaus
Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce that Denver Hume has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light.

The left-back has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal on Wearside, with the club option of a further year also included.

After joining SAFC’s academy aged eight, Hume has gone on to make 63 Sky Bet League One appearances for the Lads, scoring twice in that time.

After putting pen to paper, Hume said: “I’m pleased to have signed a new deal after a long summer and now my focus is on working hard and getting back to full fitness. I feel in good shape and I’ve been back out on the grass for a while now, so it’s just about getting that match fitness under my belt and kicking on from there.”

Johnson added: “Our only regret is that this wasn’t completed sooner, but we are delighted to have retained another quality player to our squad. He is a player that I’m very excited to work with because I see his strengths and his weaknesses, but more than anything I see a young man with high potential. If he is a good student and is consistent in approach, as he always has been since day one, then I believe we can iron out his flaws and turn his strengths into super strengths. He has a wonderful vehicle here with a great set of staff that want to help him in every way, so his challenge now is to keep improving.”

Todella mallikkaasti on kausi alkanut Ylos Koosteen perusteella lauantain voittolukemat olisivat voineet olla kauniimmatkin, mutta käy tämäkin! Jokohan olisi viimein Koillis-Englannin nukkuvan jättiläisen aika nousta sarjaporrasta ylemmäs?

Eipä aloiteta siellä huutelemaan. Takaisin pusikkoon äänettömästi kiroilemaan.
