CHANGES THAT CHERCHESOV CAN MAKE IN THE MATCH WITH FINLAND. FROM DEFENSE TO ATTACK

It is unlikely that Finland knows exactly what to prepare for. Why not take advantage of this?
Today, in the second round of the Euro 2020 group stage, the Russian national team will play with Finland . The match will start at 16:00 Moscow time
After the first round, Belgium and Finland have 3 points each, Denmark and Russia - 0
Along with Turkey and Hungary, we have the worst goal difference in the tournament (0-3). Change suggests itself. Below is a list of what the coaching staff can do
You can even get to the playoffs from third place if you manage to get into the top four third teams
ABANDONING THREE CENTER-BACKS AND RETURNING TO 4-2-3-1
The Russian national team's line-ups in June this year:
In the game with Belgium at Euro, Stanislav Cherchesov used a hybrid scheme in the first half: 5-3-2 in defense and 4-4-2 in attack. After the break, there was only option 5-3-2
Our variant in a friendly game with Poland - 5-4-1 with a diamond in the center of the field
Against Bulgaria in the control match Russia advanced 5-4-1 mod with two central and two attacking midfielders
The main results of these games:
Results: 0: 3 with Belgium, 1: 1 with Poland, 1: 0 with Bulgaria
Weak attack. In three games, we managed to score only two goals, and one of them from the penalty spot
Insecure play from behind with Belgium and Poland. Bulgaria rarely attacked, but at the same time it also had a chance to excel. In the second half, there was a dangerous counterattack, before the break, Shunin repelled Tsvetanov's blow at close range
Right now, neither defense nor attack is the strength of the Russian national team. And this is a big problem.
It was already difficult to improve the defense due to the placement: there was a simultaneous saturation of both the middle of the field and the center of the defensive line. But individual mistakes were all crossed out. They can happen with any pattern. As practice has shown, the probability with three defenders behind is even higher - just an additional player can make a mistake.
But Stanislav Cherchesov can make the attack stronger by adding an extra player there. Instead of a central defender, since there are no three very reliable ones anyway.
It is not too late to switch to the 4-2-3-1 scheme, which was the main one for the Russian national team at the 2018 World Cup and in the Euro 2020 qualification. So far, in these tournaments, the Russians have achieved their best results under Cherchesov: the quarterfinals of the world and a confident second place in the selection.
The option with two central defenders for Russia against Finland looks likely. Most likely, the opponent will defend a lot, as he did with Denmark, when he frankly played the second number (1-22 in shots and 30% -70% in possession), but in the end he won due to a single goal. An additional player in the attack will definitely not be superfluous. The fact that we tried to attack against Belgium in a two-center setup suggests a repetition.
By the way, the Finnish national team plays 5-3-2. But that doesn't mean Russia needs to mirror the scheme of a less classy rival. At this Euro, the Czech Republic with four defenders beat Scotland (2: 0), which plays just 5-3-2.
DUPIN OR SAFONOV INSTEAD OF SHUNIN
Shunin was not convinced in the match with Belgium:
25% of reflected blows. The penultimate figure of the goalkeepers, on the goal of which they hit. Only Schmeichel is worse (0%, 1 conceded ball on 1 hit)
With the second goal, Shunin beat off a cross-feed into the target just in line with Meunier, with the third ball, the goalkeeper took a half-position while accelerating Lukaku behind Semyonov
There was an episode when Shunin went to the exit and hit the ball flying into his hands, and did not catch
This is Shunin's second hesitant official match in Europe this season. Which is sad, of the two. In September, the goalkeeper was unconvincing in the match against Lokomotiv Tbilisi (1: 2) in the Europa League qualification. Then he twice unsuccessfully hit the ball on the opponent's leg, interrupting the cross and reflecting the blow from outside the penalty area.
In the RPL, the past season also turned out to be modest for Shunin:
74 rescues (10th in the league)
71.15% of hits reflected (10th)
47 free kick saves (7th)
61.04% of hits reflected from the penalty area (11th)
27 Long Range Saves (10th)
100% of reflected long-range shots (the best along with Lantratov from Khimki)
1 penalty reflected (six goalkeepers have recaptured more, one save from eleven goalkeepers)
12.5% of reflected penalties (1 out of
. Along with Chondrich from Rotor, 16th place among goalkeepers who pulled shots from the “spot”
If Cherchesov replaces the goalkeeper, then you shouldn't be surprised. In a friendly match with Poland, the coach gave time to young Safonov. And then there is Dupine. Last season, the goalkeeper of Rubin Kazan was the best. We have an analysis with all the important indicators.
If Cherchesov decides to leave Shunin, then the coach can also be understood. There is no certainty that Dupin or Safonov will play reliably from sight. In this case, the Dynamo goalkeeper will have to justify mistakes and rehabilitate himself for the previous unsuccessful match at Euro 2020.
DIVEEV INSTEAD OF SEMENOV
At the senior level, until Euro 2020, none of the players played in major national team tournaments. The reason why the replacement suggests itself: Semyonov's imports in important matches. In the game with Belgium, he presented a goal to Lukaku, in the fall he retired already in the 24th minute of the League of Nations game with Turkey,
Arguments in favor of Diveev:
Of the collections on an ongoing basis, only he and Evgeniev played in their clubs with a scheme with two central defenders
Evgeniev did not play in friendly matches and was included in the application only after a poor PCR test with Andrey Mostovoy
Diveev came out as a substitute in all three matches of the Russian national team in June. In total, he spent 135 minutes on the field. Only the exit with Belgium turned out to be unsuccessful, when he ran away from him like a standing man and scored Lukaku. But Semyonov was much more grossly mistaken.
Diveev is young (21 years old), and he has a chance to become the main one in the Russian national team for a long time. In March, he was the main player in the Russian youth team, where he was paired with Evgeniev. True, both were wrong then. If Semenov was reliable, then there would be no need to talk about castling
What a defense line with four defenders might look like in a match with Finland: Fernandez, Diveev, Dzhikia, Kudryashov / Karavaev . Cherchesov recently named Kudryashov one of the team leaders, and the defender recovered from injury. For Antalyaspor, he plays left wing-back in a four-player line-up. From the designated players, the scheme will be familiar to everyone except Jikia.
WITH THE OPTION 4-2-3-1, IT IS EASY TO FIT BOTH THE RUNNER IONOV AND THE THINKER MIRANCHUK ON THE FIELD
Possible middle lane and attack:
Center of the field: Zobnin, Ozdoev / Barinov
Attacking three: Miranchuk, Golovin, Ionov
Forward: Artem Dzyuba
In the center of the field and in the forward position, the options are obvious. Golovin's position also raises no questions. Like Dziuba, he is without question a key player in our team since the 2018 World Cup.
If Cherchesov decides to remove one defender and add a player to the attack, then this will open up the opportunity to release in front both the high-speed Ionov and the interesting-minded Miranchuk. The trainer used both of them in June, but has not released them at the same time yet. With Finland, both speed and thought will be important. The successful result of the Finns with Denmark is not quite a sensation. Before the Euro, they drew with Ukraine (1: 1) in a control meeting, and in November last year defeated France (2: 0) at Stade de France.
The need to win sets up a squad with an attacking accent. And above, only one of the options is indicated. The coach of any team for one specific match can come up with something that no one else can think of. In our case, this may even be the exit of the Dzyuba - Sobolev - Zabolotny troika. The truth is, an unexpected move in relation to previous games suggests itself.
