Japanin koillis-osassa ollut 8.9 richterin maanjäristys rannikon edustalla. Tokiossa asti rakenukset vavisseet ja loukkaantuneta on. Kuolonuhreista ei tietoa. Saa nähdä vaikuttaako viikonlopun peleihin?

E. Eihän siellä mitään pelata varmastikkaan. Huh huh. :(

No ei varmasti pelata tänä viikonloppuna.

Toivotaan tosiaan parasta!

Kashima - Major damage reported at Kashima Stadium, clubhouse also damaged
Sendai - Clubhouse severely damaged, stadium unknown
Yokohama - Broken glass and collapsed ceilings at shops inside Nissan Stadium

Varsinkin tuo jälkimmäinen Tokyon olympiastadionilla pelattava peli pistää arveluttamaan..

Japanese Domestic Football Comes To Terms With Disastrous Earthquake

Games postponed and infrastructure damaged, but there is also the will to return to play the game as soon as possible.
By Cesare Polenghi and Teppei Takano

The devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan on Friday has had a great impact on the nation's football as the clean-up operations begin around the country.

As the earthquake and the tsunami struck, most J1 teams were already travelling for their weekend games, and many got caught in the chaos that followed the natural disaster.

Kashiwa Reysol, for example, were on their way to Osaka for their game against Cerezo, but their bullet train stopped in Yokohama and it took them 22 hours to return to Chiba, located only at the other end of Greater Tokyo.

Players and staff who were at the J-Village training facilities, located only eight kilometres from the power plant in Fukushima that allegedly leaked radioactive material, have been safely evacuated.

J1 and J2 games scheduled for this weekend have all been postponed, due to security issues related to lack of water and electricity and damage to infrastructures.

The most problematic situation is of course that of Vegalta Sendai, the closest J-League club to the epicentre of the earthquake. Beside the airport being flooded by the tsunami, the stadium, the practice fields and other club facilities have been damaged.

Antlers' stadium also will need some repair. It is already confirmed that the game scheduled for March 20, against Albirex, won't be played at the Kashima Soccer Stadium. Omiya's Nack 5 stadium recorded some minimal damaged, but seems safe for use.

Games in the nation's semi-professional third division, JFL, have been postponed, making this weekend the first time in the history of modern Japanese soccer that no games have gone ahead across the top three tiers.

Asian Champions League games for this midweek are also likely to be called off. Kashima Antlers and Nagoya Grampus, who were scheduled to play at home have already confirmed that the matches will be postponed, while the destinies of Gamba and Cerezo Osaka, both due to play away games in China, are not decided yet. Gamba Osaka have reached Tianjing already, while Cerezo are for now still scheduled to leave for Shandong on Monday.

In midweek, the Nabisco League Cup's six games are likely to be postponed as well.

At this point, according to Japanese media, the most likely dates for the make-ups will be in July, which creates a conflict with the Japanese national team's invitation to the Copa America.

Among all the difficulties and the shock due to the tragedy, clubs and players are showing a strong will to return to play as soon as possible. Some of them are already organising events to support the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

Cerezo Osaka held a charity auction on March 12, while the players' association is planning a donation and a charity event.

Many supporters who had already purchased tickets for this weekend's postponed games, rather than asking for a refund, pledged for clubs to donate the money to the victims of the disaster.

Eli heinäkuussa jolloin maajoukkue ottaa osaa Copa Americaan, olisi nuo tämän viikonlopun pelit aikomus pelata.

The club's foreign players have headed home, and Japanese players from other regions are also leaving.

"Needless to say, the players aren't training. The foreign players have gone home ...," Ohigashi said. "They're struggling to live over there. It's not about training or the game."

J-League Matches Are Postponed, But Clubs Look To Bounce Back From Disaster

While the Japanese people cope, soccer clubs keep alive the spirit of game with friendlies and charity events

By Cesare Polenghi and Teppei Takano
Mar 16, 2011 11:30:00 AM

After the natural disasters that struck Japan on March 11, the J-League was forced to cancel 41 games.

Stadiums in Sendai, Miyagi, Tochigi, Mito, Kashima, Omiya and Tokyo have suffered different levels of damage, and most are at the moment not fit to host games, as electricity and water supply is not reliable in most prefectures north of the capital.

Two J1 clubs, Vegalta Sendai and Kashima Antlers, have temporarily disbanded, and their foreign players have returned to their countries, while national team manager Alberto Zaccheroni, as well as Nagoya Grampus's Dragan Stojkovic, found their way home to reassure their families.

With national team friendly games cancelled, the Japanese soccer landscape is a sad metaphor of the sorry state of the country. However, just as the people are positively reacting to what has hit them, so is the J-League.

The J-League committee will meet again on March 22 to decide how to proceed with the restructuring of the season. In the meantime, the corporation has already donated 50,000,000 yen to the victims of the earthquake and the tsunami, while Vissel Kobe, Shimizu S-Pulse, Urawa Reds, Cerezo Osaka and other clubs are already organizing charity games and auctions.

Perhaps the most moving episode so far was provided by Vissel Kobe offering to share their training grounds with Vegalta Sendai.

The city of Kobe was hit by an earthquake in 1995 that killed more than 6,000, and in view of the experience, Vissel's manager Masahiro Wada has extended an invitation to their colleagues from northern Japan, who are evaluating the offer.

Japan Plan Friendly As Charity Match For Earthquake Victims

Japan FA will give all money made from an upcoming friendly on March 29 against New Zealand to earthquake and tsunami victims.
By Patrick Devaney
Mar 16, 2011 5:26:00 PM

The Japanese Football Association (JFA) are to give all revenue from their friendly match against New Zealand to victims of the country's recent natural disasters. The nation has been devastated by last Friday's earthquake and subsequent tsunami will left thousands dead and many more without homes.

Wolfsburg's Japanese midfielder, Makoto Hasebe, has expressed his desire to participate in this charity game, while national boss Alberto Zaccheroni also sent a message in support of the fixture from his home in Italy.

''I want this event to support the affected population in their reconstruction effort,'' said Zaccheroni. ''I want to express my greatest support to people in the affected areas."

The friendly, scheduled for March 29, had originally been put in severe doubt by the recent disasters. However, since Tokyo is possibly at risk of radiation over the coming weeks, the friendly could be moved to Osaka, Japan's second largest city.

"We hope to meet New Zealand who, like Japan, have recently suffered damage due to an earthquake,'' said Junji Ogura, the president of the JFA.

How J-League clubs are being affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami

National tragedy has postponed the start of the season
By Cesare Polenghi
22 Mar 2011 14:35:00

The earthquake and the tsunami that hit northern Japan on March 11 might have killed as many as 20,000 and left an estimated half a million people without a permanent place to live.

Over a week has past, yet in the areas hit by the natural disaster many are still having to put up with lack of water, food and electricity, while keeping a nervous eye on the news from Fukushima, where the leak of radioactive gases from a damaged nuclear plant has already polluted the nearby environment.

Observing this apocalyptic scenario, the world admired the composure and the strong will showed by ordinary people coping with the dire situation.

With the enthusiasm generated by the recent success of the national team, football in Japan has now permeated every layer of society and faces problems common to most of the nation: on one side there are a series of problems to deal with, on the other the firm will to solve them.

Clubs located in regions hit by the disaster, in particular top division outfits Vegalta Sendai and Kashima Antlers, are of course those suffering the most. While luckily no players were harmed, stadiums and training facilities were severely damaged.

In view of the dramatic events, both teams were forced to temporarily disband and foreign players were released to return home and reassure their families.

Kashima Antlers
- Stairways at Kashima Soccer Stadium
  crumbled
- Objects fell from ceiling and broke
  seats
- Player facilities and museum
  damaged
- Three months needed to repair
  damage

Vegalta Sendai
- Training grounds possibly damaged
  beyond repair
- Yurtec Stadium outer wall has
collapsed, won't be ready in April
- Half the players are training
  individually, outside of Sendai

Omiya Ardija
- Cracks in pillars at entrance to the
  NACK 5 Stadium
- Cracks in walls of corridors and
  other minor damage
- Will be able to use Saitama 2002
  Stadium

Montedio Yamagata
- No real damage to the stadium but
  players having trouble reaching
  training ground because there is
  very little gasoline in town
- Club suspended activities till April 27

The league committee's only option was to postpone a total of four rounds of J-League championship and J-League Cup games. Similarly the JFA was forced to cancel two friendly games scheduled for March 25 and 29 against Montenegro and New Zealand respectively.

The J-League will meet again on Tuesday and face the complicated task of reorganising the yearly schedule, especially in view of the fact that recovery for the clubs directly hit by the cataclysm won't be instantaneous.

Kashima Antlers' stadium, for example, will not be fit for use for some three months and the situation seems even more compromised in Sendai. Montedio Yamagata, Omiya Ardija and a few second division clubs as well are facing infrastructure problems.

These clubs have received several offers for temporary relocation but while it is heartwarming to see such generosity, the reality is still rather more complicated.

Besides the technical problems involved with transplanting a club, it must be kept in mind how the J-League was created upon a principle of "grassroots support," and for a club to move away from its hometown would mean, even if only temporarily, abandoning local supporters.

If as expected, more games will be postponed, calendar-wise the only option seems to be to play the rescheduled games in July. This will probably mean that J-League players won't be available for the national team to travel to the Copa America in Argentina.

In spite of the difficulties, however, Japanese football has been as resilient as the rest of Japan in dealing with the tragic situation.

In a matter of days, J-League players and supporters were collecting significant sums to help victims. Moreover, a series of charity games have been promptly organised, including one that will see the Japanese national team facing a selection of J-Leaguers in Osaka on March 29.

It is still too early to assess how the recent dramatic events that have hit Japan will affect domestic football.

However, it is clear that, just like the country at large, those who love and live through football are not accepting the situation passively.

On the contrary, they are using their passion for the game as a catalyst for hope and for a better future.

The words of Vissel Kobe's captain, Kunie Kitamoto, sum up the spirit well.

"When the big earthquake of 1995 hit Kobe, I was still a kid," Kitamoto said. "However, how people reacted to that event strongly motivated me.

"Today, as a professional soccer player I'll do my little part to help Japan to get back on its feet."

Japan 2-1 J-League Select: Samurai Blue defeat J-League stars in charity match for disaster victims

Almost US$ 800,000 has been raised for victims of the recent natural disasters in Japan, after a charity match was played out between the national team and a J-League select side.
By Cesare Polenghi and Chris Paraskevas
Mar 29, 2011 2:24:00 PM

Japan have won the "Ganbarou, Nippon" charity match in Osaka 2-1 against a select team of J-League stars.

An incredible atmosphere permeated throughout the stadium, with banners unfurled representing most J-League clubs and tens of thousands chanting in support of Vegalta Sendai, the team from the region devastated by the March 11 tsunami.

Over two million yen had been raised in the build-up to the match, which will go towards helping victims of the recent natural disasters which rocked Japan.

The Samurai Blue were energetic and Alberto Zaccheroni fielded his best eleven, including the likes of Yuto Nagatomo, Keisuke Honda and Shinji Okazaki.

Japan opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a curled Yasuhito Endo free-kick, with the Japanese players celebrating the goal by lifting their black armbands to the sky in unison, in honour of those who lost their lives in the disaster.

Shinji Okazaki chipped the ball over Seigo Narazaki to give the national team a 2-0 lead after combining well with Honda.

Though the J-League representatives produced some good football, most had never played together and they rarely tested Eiji Kawashima.

There were a number of changes at half time and both Daisuke Matsui and Shunsuke Nakamura received huge cheers when they came on, though the loudest applause was for 44 year-old legend Kazu Miura.

His lobbed goal sent the 40,000 strong crowd at the Nagai Stadium ballistic, with a number bursting into tears as he performed his trademark dance celebration.

Addressing the audience after the game, the players confirmed that more than 65 million yen - almost US$ 800,000 - had been raised for victims.

e: no kappas, ei tainnut olla ihan debyytti. No ensiesiintyminen sarjassa?
