Ricksen ite avautuu Sky Sportsin jutussa jossa hän sanoo ettei kykene pelaamaan PLGn alaisuudessa ja että PLG savusti hänet ulos kun ei halua Ricksenia tiimiinsä. Toissakauden SPL:n paras siis ulos melko rumasti.

Strachanin budjetti-kitinä ihmetyttää minua melkoisesti kun hihassa on jo viisi uutta ässää. Toki ymmärrän yskän kun hän samassa jutussa puhuu haluamiensa pelaajien mm Andy Johnsonin ylihinnoista ja palkoista, jotka ovat rajan eteläpuolella nousseet aivan tähtiin. Pitäis vaan tän nuoriin satsaamisen linjanaan ainakin tän kauden.

Ai niin. Bhoy lähtee syksyks Puolaan opiskelujen merkeissä. Vopite olla hyviä hetkiä paikallisissa pubeissa Celticin matseja tiiraillessa. Puolassa taitaa olla euroopan näkyvin Celticin kannatusliike Skotlannin ja Irlannin jälkeen johtuen katolilaisuudesta ja parista kansan pitämästä pelaajasta. Innolla odotan reissua.

McCormack joins up at Motherwell

Motherwell have completed the signing of striker Ross McCormack on a two-year deal from Rangers.

The 19-year-old was allowed to move on after being told he would not figure in new Ibrox manager Paul Le Guen's plans.

Well manager Maurice Malpas told BBC Sport: "Ross was desperate to come here after seeing how well Brian McLean and Graeme Smith have done after Rangers."

McCormack played 15 games for Rangers, scoring three times, including a Champions League strike against Porto.

And Malpas has been impressed with McCormack's development, having seen him at close quarters while coaching Scotland's Under-21 squad.

"He is coming here to be part of the team, not to be a young player to develop," said Malpas.

"He's a young lad with lots of ambition who we believe can prove he has a bright future with us."

McCormack spent the second half of last season in England's League One, scoring five times in 19 appearances for Doncaster Rovers.

"I saw a big difference in him since he went on loan to Doncaster," said Malpas.

"He came back much stronger and much more mature after playing regular first-team football there."

Malpas is keen to add to his squad further before they leave on Friday for a pre-season trip to Canada.

Finding a replacement for left-back Stevie Hammell, who rejected a new deal in favour of a move to Southend United, is his priority.

"I'm looking to bring in a couple more, possibly three, as we need to increase the size of the squad rather than lose any more," he added.

Malpas would not be drawn on his targets, but they are players presently under contract to clubs in either Scotland or England.

Troubled Ricksen consults clinic

Troubled Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen has been referred to a London clinic that helps tackle alcoholism, drug abuse, gambling and depression.

The Dutchman was sent home by new manager Paul Le Guen for "inappropriate behaviour" on a flight to South Africa.

And Ricksen told Rangers' website: "I have met people who I feel can support me through this difficult stage and feel I can benefit from their counsel."

The Sporting Chance Clinic was set up by former England star Tony Adams.

Ricksen's former Rangers team-mate, Alex Rae, now manager at Dundee, is a patron of the charity.

Newspapers had quoted Ricksen as suggesting that Le Guen had over-reacted after he admitted drinking and arguing with a stewardess as Rangers headed for pre-season training in Johannesburg.

The 29-year-old also feared that he was likely to be forced to leave the Glasgow club.
   
But an official announcement stated: "With the support and guidance of the medical team and management at Rangers Football Club, Fernando Ricksen has today sought counsel from the Sporting Chance Clinic in London, which is also supported by the Scottish Premier League."

And Ricksen has stressed his determination to make the best of what could be his final chance with the club.

"I am convinced that, as a professional footballer, I can bounce back quickly with advice and guidance," he said.

"I have made mistakes, the recent incident travelling to South Africa being well-documented, and I would like to acknowledge that my behaviour was totaly inappropriate.

"I apologise to the club, the club officials and the supporters and intend to get back playing football in the committed manner that I am used to as soon as possible."

Ricksen has been a controversial figure on and off the pitch since joining Rangers for £3.6m from AZ Alkmaar in 2000.

He has twice been punished by video evidence after altercations that were missed by match officials.

And he was also fined £7,000 after being convicted of assault and breach of the peace in October 2003 following a fireworks party at his Glasgow home.

His international career came to a premature end when he kicked a hotel door during an away trip to Belarus.

But Ricksen was particularly inspirational for Rangers after becoming club skipper during Barry Ferguson's sabbatical with Blackburn Rovers.

However, he lost the captaincy and last season was troubled by injuries and a dip in form.

Now he has become the first public victim at Ibrox of Le Guen's reputed strict discipline.

Hat-trick Adam impresses Le Guen

Charlie Adam struck a hat-trick to convince Rangers manager Paul Le Guen that the midfielder can play a part in his first-team plans this season.

The 20-year-old Adam, who was on loan to St Mirren last term, was the star man as Rangers defeated a Jomo Select 4-0 in a friendly in South Africa.

And Le Guen said: "I was very pleased with him and his goals.

"I know he was on loan last season, but he has talent and he has worked very hard. He can be a part of my squad."

But Adam's performance will be bad news for St Mirren, who had been hoping to re-sign the midfielder after he helped them win promotion to the Scottish Premier League.


Le Guen fielded a mix of young players and new signings for a match, played behind closed doors, in which Rangers were rarely tested.

Summer arrivals Libor Sionko, Karl Svensson, Jeremy Clement and goalkeeper Lionel Letizi all started the match, although the three outfield players were rested for the second period.

Senegal international Makhtar N'Diaye, who is on trial, played alongide Clement in central midfield.

"Overall, I felt it was a good performance from the players," said Le Guen. "They all did well.

"I was happy with the new players. I knew they would be fine because they are sharp and fit."

Nacho Novo set up Adam for the opener with a fine through ball after 10 minutes at the Boksburg Stadium.

And the pair combined again for the second two minutes later.

Adam latched on to an Ian Murray back-heel to add the third in the second half.

Striker Kris Boyd, who had replaced new signing William Stanger on the hour mark, added a fourth for the Glasgow club.

Winger Chris Burke missed the match after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Rangers told to double Sebo offer

Rangers have been told to double their offer or forget about signing Austria Vienna striker Filip Sebo.

Ibrox boss Paul Le Guen has turned his attention to the 22-year-old after losing out on Sweden international Johan Elmander to Toulouse.

Austria Vienna general manager Markus Kraetschmer told the Evening Times: "Rangers will need to offer more, because we don't need to sell Filip.

"The difference between our valuation and Rangers' is more than 100%."

Rangers are reported to have offered about £1.2m.

"Rangers made us an offer two weeks ago and we told the chief executive Martin Bain it couldn't be done on those terms," said Kraetschmer.

"We made a counter proposal and have since received another fax. It says they're still interested but their last offer stands.

"As a result, the file is closed at the moment.

"Filip told our sporting director, Peter Stoger, he has a nice offer from Rangers, but he can't get a nice contract in Glasgow if it means that the transfer fee for us has to be smaller."

Sebo has urged Le Guen to up his offer so he can join him at Ibrox.

"I want to sign for Rangers, but there's just one problem - the clubs cannot agree my transfer fee," he said.

"I know Rangers and Vienna have had meetings, but they have not reached an agreement. It is my dream to play for Rangers."

Asked if Sebo, who joined Vienna from Artmedia Bratislava last summer, could arrive soon, Le Guen said: "We will see."

The pacey forward bagged 22 goals in his first season as Austria Vienna completed a league and cup double.

pistetäänpäs välillä muutakin kuin copypastea, ettei tule niin tylsän näköistä topikkia tästä...

Eli Celticin ja Rangersin osat siirtomarkkinoilla näyttäis olevan muljahtaneet väärinpäin. Siinä missä wee ginger yrittää haalia vanhoja staroja Skotlantiin jäähyttelemään, keskittyy Le Guen etsimään pelaajia, jotka ovat todistaneet taitonsa jo hieman pienemmissä ympyröissä, mutta se todellinen läpimurto puuttuu.

Viimeisimpänä Celt-haisteluna siis Diego Tristan, joka varmasti haluaisi pokata eläkepäiviä silmällä pitäen helpot £30K/viikko vielä parin kauen ajan. Eipä sillä, kyllähän Strach tarvii lisää hyökkäysvoimaa ensi kaueks. Tällä hetkellähän riveissään on vain ailahtelevainen pottatukka Zurawski, nallipyssy-Miller ja kirjoittamaton kortti Beattie. Hauskaa asiassa mielestäni on, että Strachan itkee kokeneiden kärkimiesten perään, kun kauen sisään hän on päästänyt pois joukkesta Suttonin ja Hartsonin ;D

Rangers siis Slovakialaisen Filip Sebon perässä, mutta kuten aina, rahastahan se ontaas kiinni. Luulen kyllä, että jos PLG todella miehen riveihinsä haluaa, niin kyllä tuo tarvittava £2M kassasta löytyy. Yrittävät vain ajan hengen mukaisesti kisuttaa hintaa mahollisimman alhaiseksi.

Hauskaa muuten nähä millaiseksi joukkue muotoutuu Etelä-Afrikan leirityksessä. Kaikkihan ovat uuen managerin silmien alla samalla viivalla, ja varsinkin nuoremman ja vähemmälle peliajalle jääneet pelaajat sen tietävät. esim. Charlie Adamin kaltaiset hattutemppuilijat saattavat hyvinkin nousta vakavasti otettaviksi vaihtoehoiksi ykkösmiehistöön.

Stilian Petrov says thwarting his desire to leave is harming him and Celtic - and warned that his side are not good enough to retain the title.

Portsmouth have had bids rejected for the 27-year-old Bulgaria midfielder.

"We have been flat in our matches and, at the moment, we are nowhere near the form that won us the championship last season," he said.

"So if we don't start playing well it will be a very hard season. Of course it has been affecting me and my form."

Celtic have lost three consecutive pre-season matches, the latest a 4-0 humbling by DC United in Washington.

"We are only two weeks away from the start of the league and we don't look as if we can defend our championship," said Petrov.

"I fear for us in the Champions League with performances like this.

"Every mistake is punished and it's the whole team who are to blame."

Petrov told Celtic at the end of last season that he wanted a transfer as he needed a fresh challenge.

He said: "This has been dragging on for months. Everybody knows my situation, but it's up to Celtic.

"They know how I feel and, as soon as they let me talk to someone, I'll be happier.

"Right now, my form is poor, definitely. I can't hide that. I'm not happy in my situation and so I hope to sort it out quickly.

"I want it to end. I want to try something else, go somewhere else and I hope Celtic respect my wishes."

Rangers get Sebo signing deadline

Austria Vienna have given Rangers a 48-hour deadline to agree a fee for Slovakian striker Filip Sebo.

The Ibrox club are back in talks with the Austrian side but so far have failed to meet their valuation.

Vienna general manager Markus Kraepschmer said: "We have been back in contact with Rangers, but their offer is still not acceptable.

"Rangers will really have to move within the next 48 hours because we want this resolved one way or another."

Sebo has expressed his desire to join Rangers.

"We are waiting to hear from them again, but our league season starts on Tuesday and the club have an important Champions League qualifier after that," said Kraepschmer.

"We would like to build our team around Filip, but he has told us he wants to leave."

Vienna had earlier this week told Rangers to double their offer, reportedly of about £1.2m.

N'Diaye wins contract at Rangers

Rangers have completed the signing of Makhtar N'Diaye on a one-year deal after the 24-year-old midfielder impressed during a trial period.

The Senegal international previously played under Ibrox manager Paul Le Guen at French club Rennes.

"I know what he is capable of," Le Guen told the club website. "I wanted to see if he was at the right level and I believe that he is."

Gavin Rae and Kris Boyd were on target against Jomo Cosmos in South Africa.

N'Diaye was on target against a Jomo Select on Tuesday and scored in a bounce game against Hamilton Accies before Rangers left for their pre-season tour.

N'Diaye was in the Senegal squad at the 2002 World Cup and spent the last year with Swiss outfit Yverdon-Sport.

Celticin sisällä kuohuu tällä hetkellä. Joukkueen kantava voima, Stan Petrov, kiukuttelee itseään ulos joukkueesta. Nyt Alan Thompson on lähetetty jenkki-leiriltä kotio. Wee Gordon sanoo, että Thommo on loukkaantuneena, Thompsonin agentti taas ehottomasti kieltää tämän, ja sanoo että lähtö tuli ihan muista syistä.

Ja myös Pearsonia ollaan nyt viemässä pois vaakaraitapaiasta. Derbyn Billy Davies olisi erittäin kiinnostunut miehen palveluksista, eikä nuo Strachanin "ei se nyt mikää kummonen oo" -henkiset lausunnot varmasti ainakaan Stephiä Glasgowssa pidättele.

Adu harkitsee Skotlantiin siirtymistä

Yhdysvaltain ammattilaissarjaa D.C. Unitedin riveissä pelaava Freddy Adu, 17, myönsi, että hän harkitsee siirtymistä Skotlannin liigassa pelaavaan Celticiin.

Useat Italian, Espanjan ja Englannin suurseurat ovat ilmaisseet kiinnostuksensa hyökkääjänä pelaavan Adun ostamiseen, mutta amerikkalaispelaajan mukaan hän saattaa siirtyä Skotlantiin. Ghanassa syntynyt maalitykki muistutti, että hänellä on kuitenkin useita vaihtoehtoja.

– Rehellisesti sanottuna pidän Celticiä Skotlannin isoimpana joukkueena. Celtic on isompi kuin Glasgow Rangers ja he pelaavat Mestarien liigassa lähes joka kausi. Olen unelmoinut pelaamisesta Englannissa, Espanjassa ja ehkä Saksassakin. Mutta myös Skotlanti voisi olla hyvä, joten en jätä Celticiä pois laskuista, Adu sanoi.

Adu iski ottelun avausmaalin, kun D.C. United murskasi Celticin maalein 4-0 keskiviikkona pelatussa harjoitusottelussa.

– Joka päivä ei pääse pelaamaan Celticin kaltaista joukkuetta vastaan, ja siksi halusin käyttää mahdollisuuteni mahdollisimman hyvin, hän tuumi.

Tammikuussa Adusta tuli Yhdysvaltain jalkapallohistorian nuorin maaottelupelaaja, kun hän teki debyyttinsä 16-vuotiaana 0-0-tasapeliin päättyneessä ottelussa Kanadaa vastaan. Adu pelasi viimeiset yhdeksän minuuttia.
