Google: Manchester United vs Inter full match 30.7, niin löytyi samantien Youtubesta videopätkä. Ei tosin kovin hyvälaatuinen, mutta näki kuitenkin miten pallo ja pelaajat liikkuvat.

Van Gaal jatkoi samassa haastattelussa, että Kagawa ei 6 ja 8 paikalla ei toiminut ja että oli parempi 10-paikalla. Ja mielestäni haastattelussa sanoi, että wanted to try him at 6 and 8..

Veikkaan, että Kagawa on lähellä siirtoa muihin maisemiin. Perusteltua olisi ja ehkä molempien osapuolten kannalta paras ratkaisu. Van Gaal varmasti tietää mitä tekee hänenkin kanssaan.

Kyllä siihen keskelle tulee vielä pelaaja. Varsinkin jos Kagawa siinä ei toiminut. Fellainiakin viedään kovaa vauhtia Italiaan ja Carrick on klesana. Kagawan siirto voisi olla hyvä liike kaikkien kannalta. Miehestä varmasti saisi vielä ihan kohtuullisen korvauksen ja hän on kuitenkin sen verran hyvä pelaaja, että ansaitsee enemmän peliaikaa. Japanin maajoukkuekin tästä varmasti hyötyisi. 10 paikka on Manussa ylimiehitetty joten lihoiksi vaan ja nekin rahat voitaisiin käyttää vaikka siihen toppariin tai oikeaan keskikentän keskustaan. Eiköhän tämä ole juuri sitä mistä Van Gaal mainitsi, että tarkkailee kolme viikkoa mitä miehet osaa ja sitten tekee peliliikkeitä. Ei olisi suuri yllätys jos mies toteaa, että Kagawalle ei paikkaa juuri nyt löydy. Fellainen käyttökelvollisuuden taitaa jo tietääkin, mutta Cleverley saattaa säästyäkin. Tompalle voisi ollakin käyttöä vaihtomiehenä.

Van Gaal hails "best match so far"

Louis van Gaal felt Manchester United’s performance in beating Inter Milan on Tuesday was the best of his three games in charge so far.

The Reds overcame the Italian outfit 5-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in Washington DC, to stay top of the International Champions Cup group with five points.

Van Gaal made eight changes at the break but both his sides were dominant in defence, with goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and David De Gea virtual spectators.

"I am very pleased," the manager said. "I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three.

"They only had one shot on our goal and that was given by the referee [a free-kick], but I think we also created six or seven chances, so then it is seven against one.

"I was very pleased with our ball possession; it was much better than the other matches. And I think also the positions were better covered.

"So I was tonight very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the second half."

United were successful with all five spot-kicks in front of 61,000 fans in the US capital and van Gaal admitted the squad had been working on them in training.

"We practised penalties yesterday and also the sequence," he said. "That is why De Gea was our goalkeeper in the second half, because he is the best of the four at penalties.

"Fletcher hit the post in training so it's also a little bit of luck, but we deserved the victory."
United’s defence – containing a variety of players – have now kept two clean sheets in three games so far on Tour 2014, presented by Aon.

Van Gaal continued: "The first match was zero goals, the second match was a fantastic goal by Pjanic, an error from the goalkeeper and a penalty given by the referee, and today again zero goals.

"So we are doing well but we are looking for defenders, because a lot of defenders have gone. We have to replace them but I like also like Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett."

Shinji Kagawa played in the playmaker role in the second half after replacing Juan Mata, having also been used as a holding midfielder in the previous two games.

"I know him from Borussia Dortmund and he played in the no.10 position," van Gaal added. "I wanted to try him in the no.6 or no.8 position in our system in the first two matches, and then I also gave him a chance at no.10 because he wanted to play in that position. He did it much better than in the two matches before."

Of second-half substitutes Luke Shaw and Wilfried Zaha, the boss said: "Luke is working very hard and he was lucky because normally I would have played our friend Reece James, but he was a little but injured.

"And so I asked him in spite of a very heavy training session this morning and I think he did very well.

"I was pleased with Wilfried's performance but we have to wait and see. He has a lot of competition with the other strikers."

Eli tuosta nyt on helppo lukea, että ainakin puolustaja on tulossa sisään. Itse asiassa mies sanoi, että "replace them" eli innokkaimmat voisi arvata, että korvaaja on tulossa sekä Vidicille, että Ferdinandille. Vaikkakin korvaajaa voi tarkoittaa myös yhtä jo valmiina olevista pelaajista. No, joka tapauksessa puolustaja lienee tulossa sisään. Hyvä niin ja tuota voisi kutsua vahvistukseksi asialle jonka kaikki jo melkein tiesivätkin.

Iloinen asia on se, että harkkamatsit menevät paremmin kuin viime vuonna. Eihän näillä suurta merkitystä ole, mutta viime vuonna kaikki lähti menemään päin pyllyä jo preseasonista lähtien.

The interview has just finished and Louis van Gaal gets up to leave. “Interesting, eh? Interesting,” the Manchester United manager says, almost inviting approval. “You’re all coaches now.”

There was a smile and a glint in the eye as Van Gaal delivered his parting refrain, but the underlying message was clear: “Listen to me, I know what I’m talking about.” Over the previous 22 minutes in a ballroom at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, where United are staying in Washington DC on the third leg of their pre-season tour of the United States, Van Gaal had offered a tantalising glimpse of what it must be like to work under such an exacting individual. There were flashes of his dry wit and undoubted charm but also the odd awkward moment when the direct, confrontational character of popular myth revealed itself.

One reporter was shot down for making a statement rather than asking a question about the perceived limitations of British footballers. “That is your opinion — you say it, then you say I have to say it,” Van Gaal countered, deadpan.

Another was accused of trying to put words in his mouth after suggesting that Manchester City were not simply “knocking at the door” — as Van Gaal claimed — but had slammed it shut in United’s face. “If you like to say that, you have to write it down,” Van Gaal told his inquisitor, while nodding knowingly at the rest of the group. “I have learnt the word ‘entice’. I said provoke but Ryan [Giggs, Van Gaal’s assistant] said entice.”

Van Gaal will not be provoked into saying anything. If he wants to say something controversial, he will do so because he wants to — and he has done plenty of that, despite having occupied only for a fortnight the chair that David Moyes, his predecessor, vacated after ten miserable months. Above all else, Van Gaal — his reputation augmented by some tactical wizardry en route to guiding Holland to third place at the World Cup — carries the air of a man convinced about his own brilliance.

He has great respect for what City have done in a short space of time, but for a coach who has always put an emphasis on the promotion of youth — most famously with the Ajax team he led to Champions League glory in 1995 — Van Gaal is not an advocate of the City method of spending lavishly on ready-made talent. That may signal good news for Adnan Januzaj, Phil Jones and the other young players in the squad, but not necessarily supporters hoping that Van Gaal will sign a superstar this summer. “When you use youth players of the club, they know the culture of the club, they want to defend that culture, wear that culture and transfer that culture,” Van Gaal explained. “When you buy a player from outside, you have to wait and see and not every player will fulfil your expectation. It is much more difficult also for the player.

“It does not bother me whether they [City] are ten metres away or 30 kilometres away. It is amazing [what they have done] because they were not a big club and now already [they are] champions.

“They are knocking at the door, but that is good for Manchester United because where there is competition, you can be proud when you are the champion at the end, and maybe we will be the champions.”

Van Gaal knows that the road from seventh to first will not be without its pitfalls, though. Having warned supporters that United may “struggle” for the first three months of the campaign as they adjust to his demands and new 3-4-1-2 formation, the Dutchman made no apologies for claiming that the squad was “broken”.

“I don’t think it is a hard [strong] word, because when you are seventh the selection at that time is not happy, unsatisfied and without confidence and when you are like that you are broken,” he said. “So now they have me — a new manager, so new chances and they want to show themselves unbelievably [very much]. But we have to make a way of playing football that is not the same as before and that is difficult for them. They have to perform under resistance. They have to decide [what to do] within one second and that is not so easy.”

His clarity of thought and communication will help that process. “I speak English my way, but people understand it,” Van Gaal said, acknowledging his staccato delivery. It would have been an easier job, Van Gaal claims, if he had succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson in the 1990s, when the former United manager briefly considered walking away from Old Trafford, by taking over the champions. “I was already asked in the 1990s by Manchester United [if I would join them] because Ferguson wanted to quit at that time,” he said. “That would have been more easy at that time.”

The shadow cast by Ferguson consumed Moyes. The difference is that Van Gaal considers himself Ferguson’s equal. “I don’t say it’s a dream [to manage United] because I am 62 and I know what I can do and I think United know what I can do,” he said. “The club are thinking that I am the man who can wear this legacy, so .

Shaw has been training on his own with head of fitness Tony Strudwick and completed a rigorous session on the morning the penalty shoot-out win over Inter Milan, a match he was asked to take part in at the 11th hour following a late injury to Reece James.

Speaking after the final whistle at the FedEx Field in Washington DC, Shaw was asked if it had been a difficult 24 hours for him following the manager’s remarks about his fitness: “Obviously I have seen that, but it's something I totally agree with. To play in this formation, you have to be really fit.

“I am fit but I am not at the high level the manager demands. I have got to get fitter to get up and down, but it's something I have got to work on and, in this 45 minutes, I felt really good so I am looking forward to keep progressing to be ready for the start of the season.”

Shaw acknowledges he was caught off guard by the levels required by van Gaal’s new system but says he is determined to make the grade at United. “Yeah, it was a surprise. I didn't come into United thinking it would be much harder. That's something that I think I made a mistake on.

“I thought it was just going to be the same but it's the biggest club in the world and there are world-class players in training. That is something that is going to push me on and it's something I am looking forward to doing.”

Asked if van Gaal has been hard on him thus far, Shaw said: “Yeah, but that's something I want and I need to push on so they can do what they want but it will only help me in the long run.”
