IT'S MY BAWL!
AN ANGRY granny told yesterday how she caused chaos at a football match
by invading the pitch and demanding to know who had blocked in her car.
More than 1000 fans watched as Catherine Millar, 76, strode on to the
field at Ayrshire junior side Irvine Meadow's ground and let rip at
players and officials.
Someone had blocked her in by parking outside her house and she couldn't
get out to go and pick up her 87-year-old sister Ruby.
Catherine said: "I was just angry at what was happening.
"I raised my hands and asked if someone was going to do something about
the car.
"There was a big handsome goalkeeper there and I said, 'I'm sorry son
but I need to get something done about this'.
"The fans were booing me and someone ran on to the park. He looked as
though he was going to shake me but the goalkeeper stopped him.
"I eventually went back off the pitch and went home to make my mince for
dinner. I was furious."
No one confessed to owning the car. Catherine had to wait until after
Saturday's league game with Glenafton for it to be moved. She added:
"There have been problems with parking round here ever since Irvine
Meadow sold their car park for housing.
"My husband Alex went to the ground to ask if the car could be moved but
when he came back he told me he had been sworn at.
"I called the police and decided to do something about it."
One fan who was at the game, which ended 2-2, said: "The old lady
appeared out of nowhere and brought the game to a standstill. No one
could believe it.
"She showed a lot of courage in doing what she did. It certainly got the
point across." An Irvine Meadow spokesman said: "Anyone is entitled to
park in that street. There's no guarantee that it was somebody from the
football that blocked the car in - other people park there.
"We put down 'No Waiting' cones but people ignored them. There's nothing
else we can do."
The spokesman denied that anyone from the club swore at Catherine's husband.
He added: "It was quite comical when it happened. I think she was
offside - the linesman put his flag up."
Police attended the incident but took no action as the car had been
moved by the time they arrived.
